The inspiring spirit of girl guides saw them involved in a range of war-time campaigns. One example was ‘dig for victory’, to help combat food shortages during and after the second world war. Parks, gardens and even rooftops were transformed into vegetable plots, everyone doing what they could to make a difference. 

This year we remember the important contribution girls made to support their country in a crucial time of need.

Looking for ways to mark the day?

Remembrance can mean different things to different people. These activities are a great way to explore what it means to your unit – from the poppy fields of the first world war, to stories of women working in the resistance during the second world war.
